A brief summary of gathering discussion on Tibet related topic

Dear all,

All of us concern very much on what has happened and how it goes on. We are dissatisfied with the way that western-media operated using biased reports, modified pictures, and even negative comments against China and Chinese people. CPN board has got some phone-call and emails from our members. As a response to these, last Thursday, we had a gathering to discuss the Tibet and western-media issues we are facing now. It was a good discussion and we have come up to some agreed points. Here CPN board would make a brief summary to all of you.

- We all wish a safe and successful OL in Beijing, which will take place very soon. From now on, it has the first priority.

- Learn more about Tibet and its history. We need such knowledge to let western people know about China and Tibet.

We all know that Tibet has been a part of China since Yuan dynasty (about A.C. 1300). UN, Norway, and other western countries, even Dalai himself, have accepted this fact. The Norwegian government and many Norwegians don’t agree boycott to OL and they showed support to China and Chinese people at this point. However, most Norwegians thought that China occupied Tibet in 1959 because they were told that Tibet was an independent country. Not only in Norway but also in most western countires have people similar knowledge on Tibet.

- Utilize Norwegian media/channels to send out our voices. If some one has contacts with Norwegian media, please let CPN board know.

CPN board has joined the meetings with other Chinese organizations in Norway and agreed the press message being sent and published at major Norwegian media. Some CPN members have also been interviewed as individuals by radio, TV and news papers. It is important for all Chinese/Norwegian Chinese in Norway act to the media as a group.

- Join Blogg and discussions followed by the articles and news and let more Norwegians know how Chinese people think about these issues. It will enhance friendships and communications between us. Differences exist and will be there always. Be patient with people with different views and show your own true feelings as individuals. You are encouraged to act as individuals.

- Continue to share information among our members. In order to keep our members informed, we have made a temporary web page at http://www.cpn2003.org/ny/?q=node/49, where you can get relevant information about the current issues. We need to learn and share knowledge with our friends and colleagues, better i n Norwegain.
